Location: Tauranga, Bay of Plenty
Employment Type: Permanent

The Opportunity

323 Recruitment is seeking an experienced Water Technician for a well-established civil contractor delivering a strong pipeline of infrastructure and Three Waters projects across Tauranga and the wider Bay of Plenty.

This is a hands-on technical role for someone who knows water reticulation, takes pride in quality workmanship, and understands the importance of completing installations safely, efficiently and to specification.

You will work across a range of civil infrastructure projects involving new water networks, upgrades, connections, testing, commissioning and maintenance. You will be part of an experienced delivery team and will have the opportunity to work on technically varied projects with long-term career potential.

A Level 4 Water Reticulation qualification or recognised equivalent is mandatory for this position.

The Role

As a Water Technician, you will play a key role in the installation, testing, commissioning and maintenance of water infrastructure.

You will work closely with Foremen, Supervisors, Project Managers, Engineers and other site personnel to ensure works are delivered safely, accurately and in accordance with project requirements, council standards and industry specifications.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Installing water mains, rider mains and associated reticulation infrastructure.
  • Installing PE, PVC and other water pipelines.
  • Installing valves, hydrants, fittings, service connections, meters and associated components.
  • Completing new water connections, cut-ins and tie-ins to existing networks.
  • Carrying out pressure testing, flushing, chlorination and commissioning.
  • Undertaking water shutdowns and working around live water infrastructure.
  • Reading and interpreting drawings, service plans and specifications.
  • Setting out and installing pipelines to required lines, levels and tolerances.
  • Identifying existing services and working safely around live utilities.
  • Completing trench preparation, pipe bedding, backfilling and compaction.
  • Diagnosing faults and assisting with repairs to mains, services, valves and network assets.
  • Ensuring installations meet required QA, testing and inspection standards.
  • Completing relevant QA, testing and construction documentation.
  • Working collaboratively with site teams, subcontractors and client representatives.
  • Maintaining strong health, safety, environmental and quality standards.
  • Taking ownership of workmanship and completing installations right the first time.

What You’ll Bring

Essential

  • Level 4 Water Reticulation qualification or recognised equivalent.
  • Proven practical experience in water reticulation installation and maintenance.
  • Strong knowledge of water mains, service connections, valves, hydrants and fittings.
  • Experience working with PE and PVC pipelines.
  • Experience with pressure testing, flushing and commissioning.
  • Experience working around existing and live water networks.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications and service plans.
  • Good understanding of trenching, bedding, backfilling and compaction requirements.
  • Strong understanding of civil construction health and safety requirements.
  • High standard of workmanship and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a crew.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Practical problem-solving ability.
  • Full New Zealand Class 1 Driver Licence.

Preferred

  • Class 2 Driver Licence.
  • WTR endorsements.
  • Confined Space and Gas Detection certification.
  • ConstructSafe or Site Safe.
  • First Aid certification.
  • PE electrofusion experience or certification.
  • Butt-welding experience or certification.
  • Experience working under local authority water standards.
  • Broader Three Waters or civil infrastructure experience.
