The Opportunity
323 Recruitment is working with an established, owner-operated civil and drainage contractor based in Napier.
The company delivers major drainage outfall lines, subdivisions, underground infrastructure and earthworks projects throughout Hawkes Bay. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of work, they are looking for a motivated Civil Labourer to join their team.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone who is new to the civil construction industry and wants to build a genuine long-term career. Previous civil experience is not essential. The company is primarily looking for someone with the right attitude, a strong work ethic and a willingness to learn.
You will work alongside experienced drainlayers, machine operators and supervisors who can help you develop practical drainage, earthworks and civil construction skills.
Key Responsibilities
Your duties will include:
Assisting drainlayers and machine operators on civil construction sites
Supporting the installation of stormwater, wastewater and other underground services
Helping with major drainage outfall and subdivision projects
Preparing pipes, fittings, bedding materials and construction equipment
Assisting with pipe laying, manholes, catchpits and drainage structures
Preparing trenches before pipe installation
Spotting excavators and helping operators work safely around underground services
Completing trench support, backfilling and compaction work
Using hand tools and small construction equipment
Loading, unloading and moving materials around the site
Completing general earthworks and site preparation tasks
Keeping work areas clean, organised and safe
Following instructions from drainlayers, operators and site supervisors
Complying with company health and safety procedures
Helping wherever required to keep the project moving
About You

Previous experience in labouring, construction, drainage, farming, landscaping, forestry or another physically demanding environment would be beneficial, but is not essential.
Licences and Requirements
The following would be advantageous:
Full Class 1 New Zealand driver licence
ConstructSafe or Site Safe passport
Wheels, Tracks and Rollers endorsements
Previous experience using hand tools or small plant
Ability to pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol test
Applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand.
