Civil Estimator

The Opportunity

323 Recruitment is proud to be partnering with a highly regarded civil construction contractor in the Waikato to recruit an experienced Civil Estimator.

This is an excellent opportunity to join a successful and growing business that delivers a diverse range of civil infrastructure projects across drainage, earthworks, subdivisions, roading, utilities, retaining structures, pump stations, and three waters infrastructure.

Our client is looking for an ambitious, hardworking estimator who will fit well within a close-knit and team-focused environment. The ideal candidate will be operating at an intermediate level and looking to continue developing their career within a respected civil contracting business.

More experienced estimators are also encouraged to apply, with the client willing to offer a higher package for someone who can bring advanced capability and strong industry experience.

Key Responsibilities

You will be responsible for:

• Reviewing tender documents, drawings, specifications, and contract requirements
• Completing accurate quantity take-offs and cost estimates
• Preparing tender submissions and supporting documentation
• Building up labour, plant, material, and subcontractor rates
• Obtaining and assessing supplier and subcontractor pricing
• Identifying commercial risks, opportunities, and project requirements
• Working closely with the management, operations, and project delivery teams
• Supporting project handovers once tenders are secured
• Maintaining accurate pricing records and estimating information
• Building strong relationships with suppliers, subcontractors, and clients

About You

You will be a genuine team player with a strong work ethic and a practical understanding of civil construction.

The successful candidate will ideally have:

• Previous estimating experience within civil construction or infrastructure
• A strong understanding of civil construction methodologies
• Experience pricing drainage, earthworks, subdivisions, roading, utilities, or three waters projects
• Strong Microsoft Excel skills
• The ability to complete accurate take-offs and detailed rate build-ups
• Good commercial awareness and attention to detail
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• The ability to manage multiple tenders and meet deadlines
• A hardworking, practical, and solutions-focused attitude
• The ability to work independently while contributing positively to the wider team

A relevant qualification in civil engineering, quantity surveying, or construction management would be advantageous. However, strong practical industry experience will also be highly valued.
