Solution Engineer – Renewable Energy & Backup Power

Nelson | $140,000 - $170,000 + Vehicle + Phone

An established and growing New Zealand energy solutions business is seeking a highly capable Solution Engineer to join its Nelson-based team. Specialising in solar, battery storage, off-grid power systems, backup generation and energy resilience solutions, the business delivers projects across residential, commercial and industrial sectors nationwide.

This is a unique opportunity for someone who enjoys both hands-on technical work and designing complex energy solutions. The role is approximately 50% field-based and 50% office-based, working closely alongside one of the company's senior technical leaders.

About the Role

You will play a key role in the design, delivery and commissioning of renewable energy and backup power systems including:

• Solar PV systems
• Battery energy storage systems
• Off-grid power solutions
• Hybrid power systems
• Commercial and industrial generators
• Energy resilience and backup power projects

Working closely with customers, installers and the leadership team, you'll help scope projects, provide technical advice, develop tailored solutions and support successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities

• Designing and specifying renewable energy and backup power systems
• Conducting site visits and technical assessments
• Preparing proposals and technical documentation
• Supporting project delivery and commissioning
• Providing technical guidance to customers and installation teams
• Assisting with troubleshooting and problem solving
• Building strong relationships with clients and stakeholders
• Supporting business growth through exceptional technical expertise and customer service

About You

• Electrical trade qualification, engineering background or equivalent industry experience
• Experience with solar, battery storage, generators, power systems or related technologies
• Strong technical and problem-solving capability
• Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders
• Comfortable balancing office-based design work with hands-on field involvement
• Commercially minded with a practical, solutions-focused approach
• Strong organisational and project coordination skills
