Machine Operator – Civil & 3 Waters

323 Recruitment is proud to be working on behalf of a leading Civil and 3 Waters contractor based in Auckland. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of work, our client is seeking an experienced Machine Operator to join their team in a full-time role based in Waitakere / West Auckland.

This is an excellent opportunity for a capable and safety-focused operator to utilise their skills across a range of civil construction and 3 Waters infrastructure projects. You will work as part of an experienced site team, supporting the successful delivery of projects to a high standard.

About the Role

As a Machine Operator, you will be responsible for safely operating a range of civil construction machinery and equipment, including excavators, loaders, compactors, and other plant as required. You will work closely with supervisors, foremen, labourers, and wider project teams to ensure work is completed efficiently, safely, and in line with project requirements.

Key Responsibilities

• Safely operate a range of construction machinery, including excavators, loaders, compactors, and other civil plant

• Carry out daily pre-start checks, routine maintenance, and basic inspections on assigned machinery

• Assist with earthworks, trenching, drainage, backfilling, site preparation, and general civil works

• Interpret plans, levels, and specifications to complete tasks accurately and efficiently

• Work closely with supervisors, foremen, labourers, and wider construction teams

• Support the delivery of projects on time, safely, and to the required standard

• Identify and report any machinery faults, site hazards, or construction issues

• Follow all health, safety, environmental, and quality procedures on site

• Maintain a clean, safe, and organised work area

• Assist with general site duties when required

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

• Minimum 2 years’ experience as a Machine Operator within the civil construction industry

• Proven experience operating excavators, loaders, compactors, and other relevant civil construction equipment

• Experience working on civil infrastructure, earthworks, drainage, roading, utilities, or 3 Waters projects

• Strong attention to detail and the ability to work to plans, levels, and specifications

• A practical understanding of site safety and civil construction methods

• Good problem-solving skills and the ability to work efficiently on site

• A valid driver’s licence

• Relevant machine operating licences, endorsements, or WTR would be advantageous

• A strong commitment to health, safety, and environmental standards

• A positive attitude and the ability to work effectively as part of a team
