Job Description

Project Manager – Civil & 3 Waters

323 Recruitment is proud to be working on behalf of a leading Civil and 3 Waters contractor based in Auckland. Due to continued growth and a strong pipeline of work, our client is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join their team in a full-time role based in Waitakere / West Auckland.

This is a key opportunity within a privately owned civil infrastructure business where the directors and owners are still heavily involved in project delivery. The successful candidate will play an important role in managing projects from planning through to completion, while working closely with the leadership team, site crews, engineers, supervisors, subcontractors, consultants, and clients.

This is not a purely office-based project management role. Our client is looking for someone who is commercially sharp, technically capable, and genuinely hands-on. The right person will be comfortable moving between the office and site, leading from the front, and jumping into the trenches when required to support the team and keep projects moving.

About the Role

As Project Manager, you will be responsible for overseeing the successful delivery of civil infrastructure and 3 Waters projects across the Auckland region. You will manage programme, budget, resources, client relationships, subcontractors, claims, variations, quality, and health and safety, while remaining closely connected to day-to-day site operations.

This role would suit an experienced Project Manager from a civil construction background who enjoys being close to the work, understands the realities of site delivery, and is confident working alongside crews, supervisors, engineers, and company directors.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage civil and 3 Waters projects from planning and procurement through to completion

  • Oversee project programme, budget, resources, methodology, and delivery strategy

  • Work closely with directors, owners, supervisors, engineers, foremen, crews, subcontractors, and suppliers

  • Maintain strong visibility across both site and office-based project activities

  • Lead project planning, construction sequencing, procurement, forecasting, and reporting

  • Manage client relationships, consultant communication, council interfaces, and key stakeholder expectations

  • Review drawings, specifications, contracts, methodologies, and technical documentation

  • Monitor project progress, identify risks, resolve issues, and drive practical solutions

  • Prepare and manage claims, variations, RFIs, EOTs, progress reports, and project documentation

  • Ensure works are delivered safely, efficiently, and to the required quality standard

  • Support supervisors and site teams with daily planning, problem-solving, and resource coordination

  • Promote a positive, hardworking, and team-focused site culture

  • Step in and support the team on site when required, including hands-on involvement where needed

  • Ensure all project activities comply with health, safety, environmental, quality, contractual, and client requirements

  • Contribute to business improvement, project systems, and long-term company growth

About You

To be successful in this role, you will ideally have:

  • Proven experience as a Project Manager within civil construction

  • Strong background in civil infrastructure, 3 Waters, drainage, water reticulation, earthworks, roading, utilities, or reinstatement works

  • Demonstrated experience managing projects from start to finish

  • Strong commercial understanding, including claims, variations, forecasting, procurement, and cost control

  • Practical site knowledge and the ability to understand construction sequencing, plant, labour, materials, and methodology

  • Confidence working directly with directors, clients, consultants, subcontractors, supervisors, and crews

  • Strong leadership skills with a hands-on, team-first approach

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, contracts, and project documentation

  • Excellent communication, planning, reporting, and stakeholder management skills

  • Strong problem-solving ability and the confidence to make sound decisions under pressure

  • A genuine willingness to be present on site and support the team where required

  • A valid driver’s licence

  • Drainage tickets and/or water reticulation qualifications would be highly advantageous

  • Relevant Site Safe, First Aid, confined space, WTR, STMS, or other civil construction tickets would also be beneficial

What’s on Offer

  • Key Project Manager role with a leading Civil and 3 Waters contractor in Auckland

  • Salary package from $135,000 to $185,000, depending on experience

  • Opportunity to work closely with company directors and owners

  • Strong pipeline of civil infrastructure and 3 Waters projects

  • Genuine influence over project delivery, systems, and business growth

  • Mix of site-based and office-based project management

  • Supportive, practical, and hardworking team environment

  • Career development and long-term progression opportunities

  • Opportunity to take ownership of key infrastructure projects across Auckland
