Solar & Battery Installer – Step Into Business Ownership
Locations: Manawatū (priority) + Wellington, Blenheim, Christchurch, Waikato, Queenstown, Southland
Are you a qualified NZ electrician based in Manawatū—or open to relocating to one of the listed regions—and ready to step off the tools treadmill and into something bigger?
This is not a standard job. This is a pathway to running your own installation business with the backing, workflow, systems, and support of an established national solar provider.
You’ll lead a small crew completing 2–3 solar and battery installs per week, primarily residential to start, with a clear pathway into commercial and dairy projects as your capability grows.
You focus on quality installs and leading your team. The brand handles the sales pipeline, admin, systems, and back-office support.
What a typical week looks like
You’ll work with a crew of 2–3:
• 1–2 team members completing roof installs and cable runs (working at heights, apprentice/mechanical installer)
• You managing inverter, battery, and switchboard work
Consistent workflow is provided by the sales team, so you’re not chasing work — you’re delivering it.
What success looks like in the first 6–12 months
• Building a reliable, efficient crew
• Forming strong relationships with the sales team who feed you the work
• Mastering the products, standards, and installation SOPs
• Developing an operational rhythm that drives strong profitability
• Learning how to run the business (ordering, people, financials, admin) with full support
What you must have
• NZ Registered Electrician (no limited licences)
• Willingness to obtain Parallel Mains endorsement (micro-credentials supported)
• Willingness to obtain Working at Heights certification
• Professionalism, reliability, and leadership mindset
Leadership experience is helpful but not essential.
The financial model
• No franchise fee
• You operate as the owner of your own installation company
• A sign-written van is funded via loan
• Nationally set install rates with consistent workflow
• Only $800 + GST per month for full admin, accounting, GST, payroll, and back-office support
Estimated first-year earnings: $150k–$170k, based on a crew of 3, 2.5 installs per week, and efficient crew management.
Training and onboarding (paid)
During onboarding you invoice at $45/hour while you learn the model.
This includes:
• 4 days classroom training in Auckland (business, systems, products, customer experience)
• Site visits with the sales team
• 4 weeks shadowing an experienced installer
• Ongoing support from a senior Technical Quality Manager
• Funded micro-credential courses for endorsements
• Help recruiting your crew
This suits someone who
• Is a good sparky but wants more than wages
• Is ready to lead a small team
• Wants to build something of their own without starting from scratch
• Understands that efficiency = profitability
• Takes pride in quality work and customer experience
If you’re ready to move from being an employee to running your own install operation with real support behind you, this is a rare opportunity.
