Project Engineer / Estimator – Civil

We are a self-performing civil construction company delivering infrastructure projects across Tauranga, Waikato and surrounding regions. With a strong pipeline of work secured, we’re looking for a Project Engineer / Estimator to join the team and support both pricing and project delivery.

About the Role

This is a hybrid Project Engineer / Estimator role, suited to someone who understands how civil projects are built and enjoys being involved from pricing through to delivery.

You’ll be involved in estimating upcoming work while also supporting live projects, working closely with Project Managers, site teams and commercial leads. This role is primarily based in Tauranga, with flexibility to assist on projects in Hamilton as required.

The role reports to the Estimating Manager, with a dotted reporting line into project delivery leadership.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare cost estimates and pricing for civil construction projects
• Complete quantity take-offs from drawings and specifications
• Support tender submissions, methodologies and pricing reviews
• Assist with project setup, budgeting and cost tracking
• Work closely with Project Managers and site teams
• Engage with suppliers and subcontractors for pricing and procurement
• Support smooth handover from estimating into project delivery
• Assist with variations, progress claims and cost reporting as required

About You

• Background as a Project Engineer or Estimator within civil construction
• Strong understanding of civil construction methodologies
• Experience across earthworks, drainage, roading or three waters
• Able to read and interpret civil drawings and specifications
• Comfortable working across both office and site environments
• Strong work ethic and flexible approach to project demands
• Not a pure QS role — practical, delivery-focused mindset essential

Hours & Location

• Typical hours 7:00am – 5:00pm, aligned with project requirements
• Tauranga-based, with flexibility to support Hamilton projects
