Service Manager

An established industrial services business is seeking an experienced Service Manager to lead branch service operations across industrial air compressor service and maintenance. This is a hands-on leadership role combining people management, technical oversight, customer engagement, and operational delivery.

You’ll be responsible for ensuring safe, efficient, and high-quality service outcomes while driving performance, compliance, and continuous improvement.

The Role

As Service Manager, you will take ownership of day-to-day service operations, leading a team of technicians and coordinating service activities to meet customer and business expectations.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Planning and coordinating daily, weekly, and long-term service activities

  • Ensuring all service, breakdown, installation, and preventative maintenance work is delivered safely and on time

  • Acting as the escalation point for complex technical and customer issues

  • Leading, coaching, and developing service technicians and apprentices

  • Supporting recruitment, onboarding, training, and performance management

  • Maintaining accurate service records and job documentation

  • Driving strong Health & Safety compliance in line with NZ legislation

  • Managing service quality, audits, and continuous improvement initiatives

  • Building and maintaining strong customer and supplier relationships

  • Overseeing service inventory, vehicles, tools, and assets

  • Supporting service revenue, margins, job costing, and cost control

About You

You’re a confident operational leader with a strong technical background and experience managing field-based teams

You will bring:

  • A trade qualification in mechanical, electrical, or industrial engineering (or equivalent experience)

  • Proven experience in industrial service operations (compressed air systems highly regarded)

  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience

  • Strong knowledge of New Zealand Health & Safety requirements

  • The ability to balance people leadership with hands-on technical involvement

  • Strong organisational, communication, and problem-solving skills

  • Commercial awareness and a customer-focused mindset

  • Confidence working with service systems, reporting, and job costing

  • Problem solving, solution-based mindset
