About the role
My client is seeking a skilled Project Accountant to join their Tauranga team. This pivotal position will support regional project teams across Tauranga, Hamilton, and Wellington, ensuring financial accuracy, transparency, and efficiency on all active projects.
You’ll work closely with on-site Project Managers and the Auckland-based Finance team, overseeing cost reporting, forecasting, progress claims, and financial controls. This is a hands-on role where your financial insight will directly influence project performance and commercial outcomes.

Key responsibilities
Prepare monthly cost reports and twelve-month cashflow forecasts
Support the timely submission of monthly progress claims
Review budgets, subcontractor payments, and variations
Manage project retentions, bonding, and reconciliations
Conduct cost-to-complete reviews and project risk assessments
Forecast plant, labour, and material costs
Collaborate with the Tendering team on pre-construction and programme planning
Liaise between project delivery and finance functions to ensure accurate, on-time reporting
About you
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting
Minimum 5 years’ experience in financial or management accounting (civil construction experience preferred)
Strong understanding of project financials and commercial drivers
Willingness to travel up to one week per month between regions
Proficient in Excel and financial systems
Excellent communicator with strong analytical and problem-solving skills
High attention to detail and a proactive, collaborative approach
Commercially minded with a desire to continuously improve processes
