Job Description

Partner with project teams to deliver financial accuracy and clarity across major civil infrastructure projects.

About the role
My client is seeking a skilled Project Accountant to join their Tauranga team. This pivotal position will support regional project teams across Tauranga, Hamilton, and Wellington, ensuring financial accuracy, transparency, and efficiency on all active projects.

You’ll work closely with on-site Project Managers and the Auckland-based Finance team, overseeing cost reporting, forecasting, progress claims, and financial controls. This is a hands-on role where your financial insight will directly influence project performance and commercial outcomes.

If you thrive in a dynamic environment and enjoy being part of a high-performing project team, this opportunity is for you.

Key responsibilities

  • Prepare monthly cost reports and twelve-month cashflow forecasts

  • Support the timely submission of monthly progress claims

  • Review budgets, subcontractor payments, and variations

  • Manage project retentions, bonding, and reconciliations

  • Conduct cost-to-complete reviews and project risk assessments

  • Forecast plant, labour, and material costs

  • Collaborate with the Tendering team on pre-construction and programme planning

  • Liaise between project delivery and finance functions to ensure accurate, on-time reporting

About you

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting

  • Minimum 5 years’ experience in financial or management accounting (civil construction experience preferred)

  • Strong understanding of project financials and commercial drivers

  • Willingness to travel up to one week per month between regions

  • Proficient in Excel and financial systems

  • Excellent communicator with strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • High attention to detail and a proactive, collaborative approach

  • Commercially minded with a desire to continuously improve processes

Why join?
You’ll be part of a business that empowers its people to take ownership and make an impact. This team values hard work, integrity, and a down-to-earth attitude — not suits or titles. They’re building quality infrastructure and stronger communities, and they need someone who shares that purpose.

  • Competitive remuneration package ($105K–$115K + KiwiSaver)

  • Flat management structure with real autonomy

  • Training and career development opportunities

  • Supportive team culture and genuine work-life balance

  • Additional employee benefits through a unique recognition programme

If you’re ready to take ownership of your projects and be part of something meaningful — apply now.
