Job Description

About the role
My client is a trusted engineering and fabrication specialist with a proud history delivering structural, architectural and infrastructure projects across New Zealand. They’re seeking a Lead Estimator to take charge of their tendering process, analysing drawings, preparing accurate cost estimates and supporting project delivery from bid to build.

You’ll be the commercial anchor between design and delivery, ensuring each quote reflects the precision, value and quality their clients expect.

Key responsibilities

  • Lead the preparation of tenders, quotes, and pricing schedules.

  • Analyse plans, specs, and BoMs to ensure accurate cost estimates.

  • Liaise with designers, workshop, and site teams to confirm buildability and pricing.

  • Review supplier and subcontractor pricing and negotiate where necessary.

  • Maintain cost databases, templates, and historical data.

  • Support bid reviews, forecasting, and post-award handovers.

You’ll bring:

  • Proven estimating experience in structural steel, fabrication, or heavy engineering.

  • Strong ability to interpret drawings and technical documents.

  • Excellent numeracy, accuracy, and commercial awareness.

  • Confidence engaging across all levels — from engineers to directors.

  • Proficiency with estimating tools and Excel-based cost modelling.

What’s on offer:

  • Salary $100,000-$130,000+ (based on experience).

  • A business built on quality, innovation, and integrity.

  • Hands-on exposure to complex, large-scale projects.

  • Supportive team and opportunity to refine estimating processes.
