Job Description

Drive the delivery of civil projects with one of New Zealand’s most respected contractors.

My client is an industry leader in bulk earthworks, drainage and infrastructure delivery. Weve partnered to find them a highly practical and motivated Project Manager to join their team in the Hawke’s Bay.

Important: Please note this is a hands-on Project Manager role — you’ll be expected to spend significant time on site and must have proven contractor-side delivery experience. This is not a purely client-side or consultancy position.

If you thrive on delivering results on site, leading teams and driving programme efficiency and profitability, this is the opportunity to make your mark.

What you’ll do

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of large-scale civil projects including bulk earthworks, drainage, roading and three-waters infrastructure.

  • Take ownership of programme performance, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within budget and to quality and safety standards.

  • Drive productivity and efficiency by planning construction sequencing, monitoring daily outputs and optimising resource allocation

  • Lead, mentor and coordinate site supervisors, working foremen and crews of 5–10+ people to ensure strong on-site performance

  • Manage procurement, subcontractors and budgets to deliver commercially successful outcomes

  • Produce accurate progress reports, forecasting and cost tracking, using project management software and site-based systems

  • Liaise closely with engineers, clients and key stakeholders to solve technical challenges and maintain strong project relationships

What we’re looking for

  • Proven experience managing civil infrastructure projects, bulk earthworks, drainage, utilities, or land development essential

  • Highly practical, hands-on leader with the ability to operate confidently on site as well as manage the commercial and reporting side

  • Strong technical understanding of construction methodologies, production planning and sequencing

  • Results-focused mindset with the ability to identify opportunities for improved performance and profitability

  • Proficiency with project systems, reporting tools and site documentation

  • Self-motivated, proactive and solutions-focused with a commitment to high standards and continuous improvement

Why apply

  • Lead high-value infrastructure projects that shape regional growth

  • Join a civil contractor with a strong pipeline across Hawke’s Bay

  • Be part of a supportive, collaborative team where initiative is valued

  • Competitive salary package, vehicle and long-term career growth opportunities
