Job Description

Drainage Foreman – Hawke’s Bay

Join a civil construction company that’s shaping the future of infrastructure in New Zealand. We’re a self-performing civil contractor delivering high-quality earthworks and infrastructure projects across the Hawke’s Bay region, specialising in drainage, roading, utilities, and land development.

We’re not defined by formality or titles, we’re a team of hard-working, practical people who take pride in what we build. Our projects improve communities and create better lives for our people and their families.

If you’re a skilled drainage leader who thrives on responsibility, teamwork, and delivering quality results, this is the opportunity for you.

About the role

As a Drainage Foreman, you’ll take ownership of day-to-day site operations, leading a drainage crew to deliver top-quality work safely, efficiently, and on schedule.

This is a hands-on leadership position you’ll be out on site setting the standard, running daily pre-starts and toolbox talks, managing productivity, and ensuring compliance with safety and quality systems.

Key responsibilities

  • Supervise drainage installations of sewer lines, manholes, watermains, and stormwater systems

  • Read and interpret plans, ensuring works meet specification and design requirements

  • Coordinate materials, machinery, and personnel on site

  • Lead daily site meetings focused on safety, performance, and quality

  • Support, train, and mentor team members to achieve high standards

  • Work closely with engineers, subcontractors, and management to keep projects running smoothly

What we’re looking for

  • Proven experience as a Drainage Foreman, Leading Hand, or Supervisor on civil projects

  • Strong background in stormwater, wastewater, and watermain installation

  • Hands-on practical skills and the ability to lead a small crew (5–10 people)

  • Knowledge of NZ construction and safety standards

  • Ability to read drawings and interpret specifications

  • Computer literacy and strong communication skills

  • Self-motivated, reliable, and passionate about quality workmanship

  • Relevant drainlaying or civil qualifications are a plus but not essential

What’s on offer

  • Competitive pay based on experience

  • Company ute and phone

  • Supportive, down-to-earth team culture

  • Career development opportunities with a growing contractor

  • Long-term job security with a strong pipeline of civil and drainage work

If you’re ready to take the next step in your career and join a team that values skill, effort, and attitude, we’d love to hear from you.
